In Moments of Doubt, Eat Some Home Made Doughnuts!

From being the unwavering companion of the cops to actually being the last name of many people in the U.S., doughnuts have a really big significance.

Doughnuts are the most loved food, in fact once they were declared as the “Hit Food of the Century”

So if you want to have a taste of them, here is an easy recipe to enjoy the delicious comfort food at home.


  • Warm Water: ½ Cup
  • Active Dry Yeast: 2 Packages
  • White Sugar: 1 Teaspoon
  • Milk (lukewarm): ¾ Cup
  • Vegetable Shortening: 1/3 cup
  • White Sugar: ¼ Cup
  • Salt: 1 Teaspoon
  • Eggs: 2
  • All-Purpose Flour: 4 cups
  • Vegetable Oil (For Cooking): 2 Quarts
  • Warm Water: 1 Tablespoon
  • Vanilla Extract: ½ teaspoon
  • Confectioner’s Sugar (sifted): 1 Cup


  1. Take a small bowl and add warm water, yeast and a teaspoon of white sugar to it. Leave it for about 5 to 10 minutes until the yeast is creamy and foamy.
  2. In a saucepan, add the milk and vegetable shortening and keep on medium-low heat. Cook the mixture until the vegetable shortening melts and you see tiny bubble popping around the edge of the milk. Have it removed.
  3. In a large bowl of a stand mixer, place sugar and salt. Now add the milk and vegetable shortening to it.
  4. Stir it slowly to dissolve the sugar and then leave it be for a while until it is warm.
  5. Now add the yeast mixture, 1 cup of flour and the eggs to it and mix on a low speed till it is smooth.
  6. Gradually add the rest of the flour to make it into smooth soft dough.
  7. Keep beating the dough for about 3 to 5 minutes on low speed until the dough no longer sticks to the side of the bowl.
  8. On a floured surface, turn the dough and knead for 3 to 5 minutes until it becomes elastic and smooth.
  9. Make the dough into a large ball and then place it into a large greased bowl.
  10. Grease the top of the dough as well and then cover the top with paper wax.
  11. Leave the bowl in a warm place and leave it to rise for about an hour and half until it becomes twice its original size.
  12. Punch it down. On a floured surface, roll it into a 1.2-inch thick.
  13. Cut the doughnut out of the dough with a doughnut cutter.
  14. Leave the doughnuts to rise for about 40 minutes to 1 hour until they are puffy and light.
  15. In a deep fryer or a large saucepan heat oil.
  16. Gently place the doughnuts in heated oil and leave there until light golden doughnuts turning them after 2 minutes.
  17. Drain them on a paper towel to absorb oil.
  18. In a small bowl mix vanilla extract and sugar in warm water to produce the glaze.
  19. Spread a think glaze over the doughnut.
